The BC Coroners Service has released updated statistics regarding the number of illicit drug-related deaths in 2016.
From January through May 2016, there were 308 accidental illicit drug overdose deaths in British Columbia. This is a 75% increase over the number of deaths occurring during the same period in 2015 (176).
Preliminary data suggests that the proportion of illicit drug overdose deaths in which fentanyl was detected (alone or in combination with other drugs) increased to approximately 56% in the first four months of 2016. In previous years, the proportion was:
2012 = 5%
2013 = 15%
2014 = 25%

Fort St. John has had 5 over the period of 2007 to 2016, but then so has Metro Vancouver's Coquitlam.
With the advent of a major infusion of a new workforce for BC Hydro's Site C, and along with the BC Liberals election LNG promises of 2013, will the RCMP Ft. St. John's office be increasing the size of their workforce as well?
